How it all began...
Well, it all started last year with a viewing of The Motorcycle Diaries and a trip to Argentina where we launched the first phase of Maya Productions www.mayaproductions.blogspot.com . Dad (Larry, for those of you that don't already know) and I decided we are going to do a motorcycle trip from the States to Argentina and back but, first we should try a Mexico tour for a warm up. So here we are less than 7 days until take off. Our Goal is to see the Caribbean(Cancun) however , seeing that we only have about a month and there is that whole hurricane thing happening, we might make some mid trip destination changes.
We are going to leave Sunday the 31 and get to San Diego. Then we head down to La Paz in Baja where we take the Ferry over to Mazatlan. We haven't really thought much past that :-)... It all depends on weather.
The Bikes: (2) 25 year old Honda CX500 customs
Price for both bikes: $450
We are both past owners of variations of this models (Dad owned his a long long, long time ago)
and picked them because they are easy to work on and find parts, just incase it should break down. (Look for us on your local Mexican milk carton)
Dad did an amazing job at bringing these beast back to life. The one I'm riding hadn't ran in 6 years and took some heavy operating to regain a pulse. I wish I could say I had a hand in this but I was to preoccupied maintaining my status as corporate office boy/charity music producer. :-) Thanx DAD!!!! He also decided to finish it off with a signature paint job including: fluorescent green carburetor caps, fluorescent orange water piping, and a faded fluorescent green to yellow to orange radiator cover. Oh and I can't leave out the custom designed lawnmower pull cord as a side panel. The bike has now official name yet but I'm kicking around World Funk...
Dad's bike is the Bat Bike (not an approved official name). It looks like something batman would have driven in the original Batman Series. In effort to bring a secure and water tight container for our valuables, Dad purchased an Igloo Legend 54qt cooler, complete with light sensitive alarm, and bolted it onto the back of his bike. This will provide a cool and safe environment for beer. However when I called the Igloo company to inquire about the speed and crash rating of their coolers it was suggested that I seek psychiatric assistance. Not quite sure what they meant but, I thanked them and offered my father as a product tester..
Gear: Ha haaa, what ever we can fit on the bikes. Updates later...
